Chain Through Type General Surface Support Buoys

chain-through-general-surface-buoys

Chain-through-type general surface support buoys are specialized floating devices designed for marine and offshore applications that require reliable surface support and mooring. Unlike conventional buoys that attach to chains at a single point, these buoys feature a central through guide steel tube that allows a mooring chain to pass completely through the buoy body.

Design and Structure

The chain through buoy typically consists of a robust, corrosion-resistant polyurethane elastomer skin and closed-cell EVA/PE with a central axial passage. There are stoppers at one or both ends to limit the chain. The buoy’s general surface support capability includes platforms, cleats, or attachment points for hoses, cables, or service vessels.

Operational Principle

As the chain passes through the buoy, the buoy rides up and down with tide and wave action without losing its connection. This design reduces point loads and abrasion compared to fixed attachments. The chain can be anchored to the seabed, while the buoy marks the location, provides buoyancy for suspended equipment, or acts as a stable working platform.

Type of Chain Through Type Buoys

  1. Barrel Shape Chain Through Type Buoys
  2. Cylindrical Shape Chain Through Type Buoys

Applications of Chain Through Type Buoys

Common uses include:

The chain-through type design offers durability, ease of deployment, and minimal maintenance, making it a cost-effective choice for general surface support in harsh marine environments.
